CPP evens record at 1-1 heading into Thursday's tilt vs. CSU Dominguez Hills at Compton
Box Score: Concordia 4, CPP 3
POMONA – Concordia utilized a three-run fourth inning and went on to defeat Cal Poly Pomona 4-3 in nonconference baseball Tuesday at Scolinos Field.
Sophomore
Jenzen Torres doubled twice and
Nick Tanos had three hits, but CPP was stopped by Concordia’s Bennett Whitmore, who scattered 12 hits in 7 1/3 innings, but gave up three runs and struck out five.
The Broncos also stranded nine runners.
The Eagles scored three runs on three hits in the fourth. Jeff Senters’ double down the left-field line scored Pete Lemone. Chris Lum then grounded out to first, but Danny Casey scored from third.
Two batters later, John Hill singled to center and scored Senters.
The Eagles added their fourth run in the sixth. Lum hit a sacrifice fly that scored Casey, who doubled to center.
The Broncos scored their single runs in the second, seventh and eighth.
It figured to be a rough day when CPP loaded the bases in the first inning with one out, but Jenzen Torres struck out and
Tyson Edwards ended the threat when he popped out to short.
Sophomore RHP
Kevin Bosson threw six innings and was credited with the loss. He struck out one, allowed six hits and three of his four runs were earned.
Marcus Makia also had two hits.
Joe Villa and
Stephen Gonzalez each had an RBI.
The Broncos (1-1) next face Cal State Dominguez Hills in a nonconference game Thursday night at the Urban Youth Academy in Compton. The UYA is playing host to the John Scolinos Memorial Tournament.
The Broncos play two games in the three-day tourney; they’ll face Cal State L.A. on Friday. Both CPP games are set for 6 p.m. starts.
