POMONA
-- Junior Reyana Colson took control Saturday night and showed she is the one of the top players on the West Coast, tying her career high with 27 points as Cal Poly Pomona led from the get-go and earned a 65-44 victory over Cal State Stanislaus in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Saturday night.

Colson also became the 18th leading scorer in Cal Poly Pomona history with 1,120 points. She entered the game in 20th place and surpassed former greats Debra Larsen and Brenda Yecke, who were tied at 19th with 1,093 apiece.

The Compton native needs just 14 points to surpass Joan Uhl (1,133 -- 1975-78) for 17th on the list.

The Broncos, who have won four straight and are 16-4 and 13-3 in the CCAA, were never threatened in the game. They opened play with a 19-4 run in the game's first eight minutes and 20 seconds and went on to defeat the Warriors for the 14th straight time.

CPP never led by less than 20 points when freshman Rachel Porter scored, giving the Broncos a 32-12 lead with 3:48 left in the first half.

Playing a strong game for CPP was senior Stephisha Walton, who secured her sixth double-double of the season and 11th in her career with 16 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. The double-digit rebound effort was her 20th in her two-year career with CPP.

All 12 Broncos played Saturday night and 11 scored. CPP shot 22-of-52 from the floor (42.3 percent) and held the Warriors (5-14, 4-11) to just 27.3 percent from the floor on 15-of-55 shooting. That is the best defensive FG percentage effort on the season.

Defensively, CPP was strong as it forced more turnovers (16) that field goals allowed (15) for the ninth time this season and sixth of the its last 12 games.

CPP next faces Humboldt State in Arcata on Thursday. It will wrap up the week with a Saturday game at Sonoma State.

CSUS was led by Alishea Kelly's 16 points.

BRONCO NOTES: Colson also stands 7th in career free throws (328) and 7th in career free throw attempts (491)... CPP's 28-point lead with 14:52 left (51-23) tied the season-best mark shared in its game against Cal State East Bay (Dec. 4)... Colson finished 9-of-9 from the FT line.
