TURLOCK
– The Cal Poly Pomona track and field teams competed in the inaugural Kim Duyst Invitational and both teams earned plenty of titles – both individually and in the relays.

Senior All-American Jonathan Williams was a double winner in the 100 (10.62 seconds) and long jump (22-4 ¼). The Temecula native was a busy man on the day as he ran a leg on the third-place 4 x 100 relay team with Jake Deavers, Corey Arnold and Carter Griffin

“Jake had another outstanding day and I think we found an event for Victor Cuccia in the 800,'' Broncos coach Troy Johnson said. “Our young weightmen (James Cox and Shane Cioni) are making improved strides. They keep improving and show a great work ethic.''

Junior Carter Griffin won the 400 (48.20) and ran on the winning 4 x 400 relay with Arnold, Deavers, and freshman Matt Boudreau (3:15.79).

Deavers was a double-winner on the day, dropping his personal best in the 110 hurdles to 14.68 and winning the 400-intermediate hurdles (54.64).

Arnold finished third in the 400 (48.87) and Cioni was fourth in the discus (138-5).

Leading off the women's team was senior Amanda Smith and sophomore Tramieka Thomas, who each earned first-place efforts. Smith tied for the top spot in the long jump (17-1 ¼) and won the javelin (119-10). Thomas stood out in the 100-meter hurdles (14.94) and ran legs on the runner-up 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.

“Both of our teams competed well with a host of PRs and improved efforts,'' Johnson said. “Our upper classmen showed they can handle the load. Marti Carrington just keeps improving in the shot put, going four feet farther. That's a significant amount.''

Carrington placed fourth in the shot put at 40 feet, 2 inches.

Senior Tokunbo Adeniji won the 400 meters in a provisional time 56.17. She also ran legs on both runner-up relays.

Triple jumper Megan Emami also won her event with a leap of 36-5. She finished fourth in the long jump at 16-8.

Other top four finishers included: 200: 3) Brooke Gamble 25.82; 800 3) Kyle Wolff 2:19.36; 5,000: 4) Amber Hebb 18:12.00; discus: 2) Ileana Tejada 130-4; hammer throw: 2) Tejada 155-01; triple jump 4) Alexandra Pankey 33-10 ¼.

The 4 x 100 relay team comprised of Ariel Whitney, Thomas, Adeniji and Gamble placed second in 48.39 and the 4 x 400 relay of Thomas, Wolff, Gamble and Adeniji placed second in 3:57.1.
