Broncos Picked to Finish Second in South Division

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -
The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team, carrying a 2011 roster that features 16 seniors, received 52 points in the conference preseason poll released Wednesday.

In the poll of the league coaches, the Broncos received the second-highest vote total in the South Division while also getting the third-most votes to capture the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament title.

Defending conference champion Sonoma State and Cal State Dominguez Hills were selected to win their respective divisions in the upcoming 2011 CCAA men's soccer season.

Sonoma State was also the coaches' picks to claim the CCAA Tournament title after receiving five votes. Defending West Region Champion Chico State garnered three votes, while Cal State Dominguez Hills and CPP received two votes apiece. 

CSUDH was the coaches' pick to capture the South Division after totaling 61 points and seven first-place votes. The Broncos finished second in the balloting after collecting 52 points and four first-place votes. Cal State San Bernardino was third with 40 points and one first-place vote. UC San Diego was fourth with 38 points and followed by Cal State L.A. (37) and San Francisco State (15).

Led by the Seawolves, which totaled 11 points, nine teams received at least one vote in balloting for predicting CCAA Tournament participants. Joining the Seawolves in the top four were Chico State (9), the Toros (8) and CPP (8).

Cal State Stanislaus, for the third year in a row, will host the CCAA Championship Tournament that is scheduled for Nov. 4 through Nov. 6 in Turlock. 

Two CCAA teams begin 2011 ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national preseason Top 25. Chico State is ranked No. 8 while Sonoma State is No. 21.

The 2011 season gets underway on Friday, Sept. 2 as the Broncos challenge Dixie State in Phoenix, Ariz. Two days later CPP takes on Grand Canyon at the same site.
