WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Megan Ford of the 11th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 26 through Jan. 1, conference officials announced on Monday.
Ford, a senior from Newhall, Calif., turned in two impressive performances this past week, collecting double-doubles versus Cal State San Bernardino and No. 4 UC San Diego. She averaged 24 points, 13 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in helping the Broncos post a 1-1 record. On the season, CPP owns marks of 8-1 overall and 4-1 through CCAA action.
During a 62-53 victory over the Coyotes of CSUSB, Ford tallied 28 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. The next night during a 78-64 loss at UCSD, she scored 20 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Ford went a perfect 20-for-20 from the free throw line in the two contests and collected career point No. 1,000 early in Friday's game against the Tritons. Ford is the third Bronco to earn the CCAA weekly honor, the most amount for a team in the conference. This is the second conference Player of the Week award in Ford's career, with the first coming almost exactly two years ago on Jan. 4, 2010.
The Broncos return to action on Thursday when they host Cal State East Bay at 5:30 p.m.
