CLAREMONT, Calif. – On Saturday at the Rossi Relays, the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team competed against several top programs from the region, including the Trojans of USC.

In the most dominating performance of the day for the Broncos, the distance medley group set a new program record after crossing the line in 11:58.78 to finish second in the event. The previous top mark was 12:09.9, which was set in 1986.

The four CPP competitors in the medley were Lizette Huerta (1,200 in 3:44.2), Brooke Gamble (400 in 57.4), Mia Moreno (800 in 2:19.0) and Tiffany Dinh (1,600 in 4:57.6).

Sophomore Heather Corder, who qualified for the national championships last season, placed third Saturday in the 100-meter hurdles with a mark of 14.55.

Another student-athlete with postseason experience, Dinh, nearly matched her 3,000-meter performance from a week ago. In Claremont Saturday she raced to a third-place 10:10.63 time, just three seconds off her season-opening mark. In that same race, Broncos' Jenny McCarthy and Juliana Ruffolo recorded top-10 finishes.

While Corder stood out in the 100-meter results, it was Brandi Gerardo who placed well in the 400-meter event. She finished third at 66.01. Another newcomer to the 2012 roster, Jenna Nordschow set a new personal benchmark for the triple jump with a distance of 35-11.25 that ranked seventh among competitors in Claremont Saturday.

The Broncos will return to action next Saturday at the Long Beach State Classic held at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif.
