Monay Mariscal to Join Women's Basketball

POMONA, Calif. – The latest student-athlete to join the tradition-rich Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball program is Monay Mariscal. A senior at Dobson High School in Phoenix, the 6-foot power forward will be a welcome addition to the Broncos' roster.

Broncos' head coach Danelle Bishop announced the signing of Mariscal on Wednesday.

"Monay is a great player and person," said Bishop. "She comes from a very successful high school program. She can score around the hoop and rebounds well. We are thrilled Monay will be a part of our Bronco Family."

In her time at Dobson, Mariscal has earned a few accolades for her feats both on and off the court. She earned 2nd Team All City and 2nd Team All Region, as well as an Honorable Mention for All State. She also excels in the classroom as she has worked her way onto the Principal's List.

Prior to her career at Dobson, Monay played for Mountain Pointe High School, where she received the Most Improved Athlete honor.

In the 2013-14 season, as a junior, Mariscal played in 28 games, where she averaged 8.4 points per game. On the defensive side, Monay collected an average of 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest. She helped the Mustangs carry a 30-3 record through the season and finish as the No. 1 ranked high school team in Arizona. They fell in the state semifinals after a stellar 14-game win streak.

Adding to the versatility of the Bronco newcomer, she also competed for the track and field team at Dobson, participating in both shot put and discus in her time there.

Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball will play its home opener on Wednesday as they host the Academy of Art Urban Knights in Kellogg Gym at 6 p.m.
