POMONA, Calif. –
Jada Blackwell of Cal Poly Pomona has been voted the 2013-14 Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region Women's Basketball Player of the Year, officials announced Thursday.
Blackwell, a transfer from Arizona State, led the Broncos to a 22-6 record this winter and to the No. 1 seed in this week's NCAA West Regional tournament which begins Friday at Pomona. She averaged 17.2 points and 9.2 rebounds in previously earning California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Year honors.
Joining Blackwell on the Daktronics All-Region First Team were guards Bobbi Knudsen of Montana State Billings and Haley Holmstead of Dixie State and forwards Krystal Forthan of Academy of Art and Erin Chambers of Simon Fraser.
Selected to the Second Team was Broncos' junior guard
Ariel Marsh. Marsh, a Chino Hills native, has the second-best scoring average in the CCAA at 16.6 points per game and she's also been an efficient shooter, posting a 37.7-percent mark from beyond the arc and an 81.5-percent effort from the free throw line.
Players selected to the region First Team will now be listed on the Daktronics All-American national ballot. The All-American team will be announced Monday, March 24.
The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
