POMONA, Calif. - After helping the Cal Poly Pomona men's cross country program reach the National Championships for the second-consecutive season, student-athletes
Brandon Haugen and
Troy Stechmann have earned All-Academic Awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Both Haugen and Stechmann are Mechanical Engineering majors. Haugen is a senior from Ridgecrest while Stechmann is a sophomore out of Tustin.
The Broncos' men's cross country program also received the All-Academic Team honor, maintaining a 3.08 grade point average while putting together an impressive season. Reaching the D-II National Championships marked the 17th all-time appearance at nationals for the Broncos' men's cross country program. It also represented the first time that CPP had qualified in back-to-back seasons in nearly a decade.
At nationals in Louisville, Ky., Stechmann and Haugen ran shoulder-to-shoulder toward the finish line with Stechmann crossing the line at 33:08.4 and Haugen following at 33:08.8.
With a stellar performance at the West Region Championships in Montana, Haugen placed 24th to earn All-West Region honors. He crossed the line in 31:47.28.
