POMONA, Calif. - For the 2014 cross country season, Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes
Lizette Huerta and
Calene Morris have earned All-Academic Awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Huerta is a senior from Ontario who is studying Kinesiology, while Morris - a junior - is an Animal Science major from Torrance.
The Broncos' women's cross country program also received the All-Academic Team honor, maintaining a 3.22 grade point average while putting together a strong season. CPP's 2014 campaign featured a second place finish at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships in San Bernardino.
It marked the Broncos' best finish since 2011 and CPP didn't trail champion Chico State by much, collecting 72 points to the Wildcats' 50. Huerta notched a time of 22:35.7 to earn All-CCAA honors for the second-straight year.
Individually at the CCAA Championships, Morris finished 22nd with a mark of 23:30.5. At the West Region Championships in Montana, Morris proved to be the second-fastest finisher among the CPP runners.
