In a marathon match Wednesday at UC San Diego, the fifth set went wire-to-wire before the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team dropped a 15-13 result in the final frame.

The Broncos' serving prowess helped the visitors pick up the win in the first set. Nicoletta Stork and Blaine contributed service aces in that frame and Alina Smith served the final three points with Hasen adding a kill in that stretch. Senior Lauren Jones registered seven kills in that opening set.

The Broncos played 2 matches in Darlene May Gym this past weekend as Kellogg Gym was undergoing  some renovations. The change to the Broncos' former home had nothing but positive effects for Cal Poly Pomona, as they went 2-0 against fellow California Collegiate Athletic Associate (CCAA) teams, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros, and the undefeated Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles.

The 3-1 defeat of the Toros and the 5-set victory over the Golden Eagles improved the Broncos to an overall record of 5-3 and 3-2 in CCAA play.

Cal State L.A. entered Saturday's match with an unblemished conference record at 3-0 and plenty of momentum after a win at UC San Diego Friday.

The majority of the Saturday highlights came from the other side though as the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team played an inspired match and fought back from a 2-1 deficit to capture a thrilling 16-14 in the fifth and final frame. CPP trailed 11-5 in the fifth set before storming back for the win.

Despite the Broncos falling behind 11-5 in the final frame, CPP didn't back down and got a series of clutch kills from senior
Lauren Jones to help pull even at 13-13 and again at 14-14. A pair of late errors on L.A. helped the Broncos wrap up the 3-2 victory.

"LJ fired up the team all week." said head coach Rosie Wegrich "She added blocking and attacking productivity which helps the team defensively."

Jones amassed a total of 29 kills, 9 blocks, and 34 points this week to help her Bronco teammates.
