Joseph Blue is starting his sixth season at Cal Poly Pomona in 2023 since joining the program in March 2018.

The 2022 season was a remarkable season for CPP throwers, much thanks to the tutelage of Coach Blue. The men swept in the discus throw at the CCAA Championships and produced conference champions in the shot put and discus throw for 77 points, which helped the Broncos win the overall team title for the first time since 1998. The women also swept in the shot put, led by Ana Tovi with the conference title in both discus and shot put. The women’s throw group managed to score 61 points to contribute to the Broncos' overall team title, their first such title since 1998. Tovi eventually reached the NCAA Division II National Championships in the shot put and discus where she finished as a Second Team All-American in the discus and 13th place nationally in the shot put.

During the 2019 season, Blue coached Ana Tovi to a school record-breaking discus toss 50.54 meters, a record which stood for 31 years. Tovi was named CCAA Field Athlete of the Week, as well as USTFCCCA West Region All-Region Field Athlete. Tovi finished as a NCAA Division II national qualifier, 14th in Nationally in Division II, 8th at the USATF U20 Championships and 3rd and 5th in the Discus and Shotput, respectively, at the CCAA Championships.

On the men’s side, Blue led Aaron Guerra to a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark and personal record, which is 2nd in school history, of 56.94 meters; it led to a 3rd place finish at the CCAA Championships and USTFCCCA All-West Region honors . Collectively, the men’s throwers garnered up 23 points at the CCAA Championships and six All-CCAA Honors.

In Blue’s first year (2018), he led Jenna Gonzales to a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark of 45.89 meters, which is also currently 6th in school history. Collectively between the men’s and women's team, the Broncos earned six All-CCAA honors at the 2018 CCAA  Championships to finish the year.

Prior to arriving at CPP, Blue spent two seasons at Southern Arkansas University.

In 2016, Blue made an immediate impact with the SAU track and field throws, multis, and high jumpers. Freshman Sinclair Pitts earned First Team All-GAC in the Hammer throw with a third place Conference finish at the 2016 Great America Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Freshmen Anna Murphy and Chioma Akolam placed second and third in Discus at the 2016 Great America Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Also, Blue coached Erica Fuller to a first place Great American Conference Title in the Hammer Throw in 2017. In total, Blue has coached 16 Men All-GAC Honors 2016-2017 seasons, 19 Women All-GAC Honors 2016-2017 seasons, one GAC  Champion (Women's Hammer), two GAC Athlete of Week Honorees and six school records broken.

Blue was a standout thrower at both Fresno State and CSUN. At CSUN he worked under coach Jason Schutz were he excelled in the shot put.

Since graduating from CSUN with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, Blue has earned his Master’s Degree in College Counseling and Student Affairs.
