POMONA – Reserve
Brittany Aldrich didn't even break a sweat before she became the difference-maker in Cal Poly Pomona's soccer game against Chico State on Sunday.
The Vista freshman entered the game in the 78th minute and 22 seconds later was on the receiving end of a pass from teammate
Carolyn Rubendall.
Aldrich camped out in front of the net and kicked the ball past Chico State GK Natalie Bensky's left side for the game-winner on a sun-splashed Southern California afternoon.
The 1-0 victory puts Cal Poly Pomona at 8-8 overall and 4-8 in the CCAA, while Chico State is 7-4-5, 5-2-5.
It was a fitting end to a sound weekend for coach Isabelle Harvey's team, which snapped a seven-game losing streak behind the three-goal effort from sophomore
Justine Barclay in its 3-2 Friday win over Cal State Stanislaus.
It marked the Broncos' first win over Chico State in their last eight meetings.
The Broncos and Wildcats were evenly matched in the first half as each team totaled two shots – two SOG for CSU and just one for CPP.
The second half was much like the first, but the Broncos fired eight shots total – three SOG for the victory.
It was Aldrich's first goal in her young career and Rubendall earned her third assist on the season.
Freshman
Ashley Salerno earned her second victory in three days and her first shutout since stopping Central Washington 1-0 on Aug. 31.
Bensky was solid in the nets, too, for Chico State with six saves.
CPP next plays at CSU East Bay on Friday and at UCSD on Sunday. The Broncos return to Kellogg Field on Nov. 1 against CSU San Bernardino on Senior Day.
