POMONA
– The Cal Poly Pomona women's team played inspired soccer Sunday, but 13th-ranked Cal State L.A. scored three goals in the second half and went on to secure a 3-2 win in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Sunday at Kellogg Field.

CPP, which lost its fifth straight, is 6-6 overall and 2-6 in league. The Golden Eagles are 10-2-1 and 7-2-1.

The Broncos snapped its scoreless streak of 346 minutes when sophomore Kailah Martin scored on a feed from teammate Cody McClure in the 15th minute. It was Martin's first goal of the season and McClure's second assist of the year.

Carolyn Rubendall padded CPP's lead when she collected herself near the goal after Mary Caroll's shot hit the post. The ball trickled down and Rubendall hammered it home for her fourth goal of the season and CPP led 2-0.

But CSULA collected itself nicely in the second half. After coming away empty with 11 corner kicks in the first half, the Golden Eagles scored on their 12th of the game. Liz Franco cornered from the left-side of the keeper and Ann Marie Tangorra was in the right place at the right time and cut CPP's lead to 2-1 at the 46-minute mark.

CPP held on to its one-goal lead until Alex Conley scored on a pass from Amanda Matthews and the game was tied at 2-2 in the 71st minute.

Seven minutes later, Franco served up the game-winner on a penalty kick and CSULA held on for the win.

CSULA held an 27-8 advantage in shots and fired a total of 18 SOG.

Freshman Ashley Salerno was busy in the nets with 15 saves.

CPP returns to action on Friday when it faces San Francisco State.
