SAN FRANCISCO – Senior Eliazbeth Diaz threw down 16 kills and sophomore Kristin McNeese added 10 kills, but host San Francisco State defeated the Broncos 3-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball Friday night.
CPP is 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the CCAA as it prepares for Saturday's contest at Cal State Monterey Bay. SFSU improved to 14-7, 7-3.
The Broncos faced a 2-0 deficit entering Game 3 and went on to earn a 25-20 win. They fired an impressive .389 attack percentage (17-3-36) to cut the Gators' lead. SFSU won the first two games by scores of 25-19 and 25-14.
A dramatic fourth game would await the two teams as they combined for 15 ties and five lead changes. SF State held a slim 20-19 edge before the Broncos notched three straight points on kills by Diaz and freshman Diana Lake, followed by an ace from sophomore Karissa Lagmay .
But a service error and an ace from SFSU along with two kills put the Gators back into the lead at 24-22.
A Lake kill and a Gator attack error soon knotted the score once again at 24-24. But a CPP attack error and kill from Beth Perkins gave the Gators the win, 26-24.
