SAN RAFAEL – Well-balanced scoring and stellar shooting from the floor paved the way in Cal Poly Pomona's 79-55 victory over Dominican in nonconference women's basketball Monday night.

Sophomore Megan Ford scored a game-high 16 points – firing 6-of-7 from the floor in the second half – and junior Reyana Colson reached double digits for the 27th straight game as the Broncos led throughout the game.

The Broncos, now 2-0 overall, shot 57.4 percent from the floor on 31-of-54 shooting to dominate the Penguins (0-1). CPP held a 45-30 halftime lead after producing a 22-9 run over the final 6 minutes and 20 seconds of the first half.

Dominican cut CPP's lead to 23-21 on Shelley Clermenco's basket. Over the next 6-plus minutes, the Broncos took command that started with a pair of Nicolette Brown field goals in the post.

Coach Scott Davis' team scored eight 3-pointers in the first half – three from sophomore Sarah Semenero and three from La'kenya Simon-West. The Broncos hit 8-of-10 from the 3-point line in the half.

Simon-West gave CPP all of the momentum late when she scored all 11 of her first-half points inside the final 2:14. With the Broncos leading 34-25, she hit a field goal, then caught fire with three straight 3-pointers and left little doubt about the game's outcome.

The Broncos didn't score another three in the final 20 minutes, but it didn't matter as Ford dominated down low with 12 of her 16 points.

Colson, who scored just four points in the first half, hit three field goals and was 2-of-4 from the line to finish with 12.

The only down side on this night was CPP's free-throw shooting. Despite hitting its high percentage from the floor, the Broncos hit just nine-of-20 from the line.

Simon-West scored 13 off the bench and Semenero finished with nine. Senior Stephisha Walton scored eight points with four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

In all, 12 Broncos were in the scoring column as they now are off for two-plus weeks before facing CCAA newcomer Cal State East Bay on Dec. 3 in Pomona.

The Penguins were led by Alisha Flaaten's 15 points.
