Davis, Diaz earn All-CCAA honors

Senior named to conference's second team

WALNUT CREEK – Seniors Jasmine Davis and Elizabeth Diaz were named to the second-team All-CCAA volleyball squad, the conference office announced Thursday.

Davis, a Pomona native, led CPP in assists with 1,018 and averaged 9.17 per game. She completed her career fourth on the all-time assist charts with 3,139. It marks the second consecutive year she has earned second-team honors. Earlier this fall, she was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic District VIII second team.

Diaz, an Escondido native, led the Broncos in kills (329) and averaged 2.97 kills/game. In CCAA matches, she averaged 3.04 kills/game and owned an overall attack percentage of .165. It is her first-career CCAA honor.

Cal State San Bernardino, which captured its fourth straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title, had a league-high tying five players named to the 2009 All-CCAA team, including a conference-high four first-team selections.

Senior middle blocker Sylvia Schmidt, who helped UC San Diego to a second-place finish, became the third Tritons player to earn Player of the Year honors and first since Nicole Courtney was honored in 2006. Schmidt was one of five UC San Diego players to receive all-conferences honors, tying Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State L.A. for the most selections.
