SANTA BARBARA -- Westmont took advantage of its outside shooting Saturday night and it cost visiting Cal Poly Pomona a shot at winning its 2009-10 season opener.
The Warriors outscored the Broncos 24-0 from 3-point territory and earned a 60-47 victory over No. 6 CPP.
CPP's inability to score from outside snapped its streak of games with at least one three at 218 games.
The last time CPP did not score a 3-pointer was against Sonoma State on Jan. 19, 2002.
Senior
Austin Swift (Santa Cruz) led the Broncos with 12 points, but no other Bronco reached double digits. Swift was 4-of-13 from the field and finished 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Junior
Tobias Jahn (Babenhausen, Germany) scored nine points with four rebounds.
The Broncos struggled out of the gate as they trailed from the outset and fell behind 28-13 at halftime on just 6-of-20 shooting from the floor.
The Warriors (3-0) were led by Christopher Jackson's 19 points. Andrew Schmalbach had 11 as Westmont finished 8-of-13 from the 3-point line.
The Warriors led by as many as 24 with 8:55 remaining in the game.
The Broncos next play Tuesday when they play host to The Master's College in their home opener. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
