POMONA
– Three pivotal scoring runs put Cal Poly Pomona safely in control Tuesday night as the Broncos rolled to a 75-47 victory over The Master's College in nonconference men's basketball before 511 fans at Kellogg Gym.

Sophomore Dwayne Fells and senior Austin Swift each scored 13 points and junior Mark Rutledge and freshman Mitchel Anderson each had 10 as CPP shook aside Saturday's disappointing 60-47 loss at Westmont.

“Tonight was a much-needed shot of confidence,'' Bronco coach Greg Kamansky said. “But we're by no means in CCAA position. We're going to continue to work hard and we have some time to prepare for our two conference games in a little more than a week.''

The Broncos are now 1-1 overall and are idle until Dec. 4 when they open California Collegiate Athletic Association play against conference newcomer Cal State East Bay.

The Broncos opened the game on a 10-0 run and maintained the lead throughout. CPP shot 54.3 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and were in command. The Mustangs cut CPP's lead to 15-10 with 12:27 remaining in the half, but the Broncos answered right back with an 11-0 run in just less than two minutes. Fells scored seven points in that stretch and Swift and sophomore Matthew Rosser each added field goals as CPP led 26-10 with 9:37 left.

The Broncos led at halftime (41-30) and dominated inside, outscoring the Mustangs 24-8 in the paint.
The Master's cut CPP's lead to 42-36 with 17:25 remaining, but that would be as close as they would get. The Broncos answered with a resounding 27-3 run and led 69-39 with 4:49 left.

Kamansky received scoring from nine of his 10 Broncos. Tobias Jahn had six points with three rebounds, a career-high seven assists and three steals. Junior Donnelle Booker had nine points with eight rebounds and Rosser finished with seven.

Senior Dahir Nasser also had seven assists with three steals and three points.

“We were significantly better offensively and got some results all the way around,'' Kamansky said. “We were in a better offensive flow.''

The Broncos forced 19 turnovers and held a commanding edge in rebounds at 44-21. The only low spot was CPP's effort from the free-throw line as it hit just 4-of-11.

Leif Karlberg scored a game-high 15 for the Mustangs, now 3-1. Devin Dyer had 12 and Raphael Harris 11. The Mustangs were held to just 17 second-half points and shot 35.6 percent from the floor (16-of-45) for the game.

BRONCO NOTES: The Broncos had 25 assists on the evening, their most since dishing out 20 against Cal State San Bernardino in the opening round of the NCAA West Regional last spring… The Broncos are 86-8 when they fire 50 percent or better from the floor during the Greg Kamansky-era; a winning percentage of 91.5 percent… The Broncos are now 27-1 when they hold an opponent to less than 50 points during Kamansky's 10 years… CPP is now 78-13 when it holds an opponent to less than 40 percent from the floor during Kamansky's run.
