WALNUT CREEK – Sophomore MF Justine Barclay headlines a list of three Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes who were named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) all-conference team
that was announced Thursday.
Barclay joins second-team selection F Mary Carroll (Upland) and junior D Britany Garrett (Lakewood), who was named an honorable mention for CPP, which finished 10-10 overall and 6-10 in
the CCAA.
Barclay, a Toronto native who played her final years of high school soccer at Rancho Cucamonga HS, scored five goals and had one assist. She played her freshman season in 2007 after not playing
last season.
She scored all three goals in CPP's 3-2 victory over Cal State Stanislaus.
“The fact that Justine returns next year and earns this honor is a great deal,'' Broncos coach Isabelle Harvey said. “I'm pleased to have her back. It's great recognition for her and for our program. She
deserves it.''
Carroll ended her career with her third CCAA honor. The Freshman of the Year and a first-teamer in 2007, Carroll was second team in 2008.
She tied a school-record with four goals in a 4-3 2OT victory over Cal State San Bernardino in her final game as a Bronco on Sunday. She completed her career tied for second in career goals (32)
and third in points (75).
“Mary's a senior and during her four years at Cal Poly Pomona, she brought a lot to our program,'' Harvey said. “She's had a lot of success for us.''
Garrett was named honorable mention for her second straight year, but this year as a defender. She had one assist and played in all 20 games.
“To step up and make the transition from midfielder to defender and become one of the best in the league says a lot about Britany's ability,'' Harvey said. “She's very athletic and no question, is one of the more versatile players in the CCAA.''
