COSTA MESA – No. 15 Cal Poly Pomona continued its trend of sound defensive play through the first month of the season Wednesday night with a decisive 61-46 victory at NAIA-member Vanguard in men's basketball.

CPP, now 4-1 overall, played well in the first half and never lost control of the lead. It shot 59.3 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes on 16-of-27 shooting. CPP finished 26-of-49 from the floor on the night.
Leading 10-7 with 13:27 remaining in the first half, the Broncos pushed ahead with a 14-0 run over the next four and a half minutes. Reserve freshman

Dahir Nasser followed with a layup and CPP led 14-7 with 13:11 remaining.
Booker later added a layup, then Swift caught fire with three straight baskets inside a minute and half and CPP led 22-7 with 9:41 left.
Booker finished off the run with a jumper and CPP was comfortably ahead 24-7 with 8:52 left.
The Lions (1-5) got to within five points twice in the second half, but the Broncos finished the game on a 10-0 run for their first win in Costa Mesa since the 2005-06 season.
It was Swift's fifth consecutive double-digit scoring night and the fourth time he has led his team in scoring. The Santa Cruz native is averaging a team-high 14.2 points per game.
The Lions were led by Mitch Boyce's 15 points and Greg Lee had 14. Vanguard shot just 33.3 percent for the game (16-of-48) and had more turnovers (17) than FGs.
The Broncos are now off for Christmas break and return Jan. 2 when they face host Cal State Stanislaus. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
BRONCO NOTES: Jahn, who fouled out with 1:32 remaining, improved his FG percentage to 62.9 percent for the season and became the first Bronco to enjoy a perfect night (minimum 5 FGs) since Walter Thompson was 5-of-5 against Seattle Pacific in last year's NCAA Tournament… The Broncos are now 88-8 (91.66 percent) when they shoot 50 percent or better from the field over a nine-year span under coach
Greg Kamansky… CPP has won 30 of its last 31 games when holding its opponent to 50 or fewer points… The game was the second time this season that CPP had at least four players score in double figures... Anderson's three 3-pointers are a team season-high.
