Broncos lose at Northwest Nazarene, 79-65

Colson, Walton, Ford score in double figures

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene took advantage of its depth and the shooting of Janee Olds as the host Crusaders defeated Cal Poly Pomona 79-65 in the second day of play in the GNAC/CCAA Challenge on Saturday. 

The Broncos are now 4-2 overall and are off until Jan. 2 when they play at Cal State Stanislaus.
The Crusaders improved to 9-1. 

NNU's Olds scored a game-high 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting, and Lindsay Brady and Jennifer Williams combined for 27 points off the bench as the Crusaders led by as many as 17 in the second half. 

Brady scored 17 and Williams added 10 as the Crusaders' bench outscored CPP 32-14. 

Broncos junior guard Reyana Colson led her squad with 19 points. Senior Stephisha Walton added 15 and sophomore center Megan Ford 13. 

Cal Poly Pomona held the lead with 12:22 remaining, 16-9, after Ford scored her second straight basket in a 20-second span. 

That's when NNU stepped up to take control, outscoring the Broncos 22-2 over the next six and a half minutes. Olds and Brady each scored eight points in that stretch and the Crusaders never looked back. 

For the game, NNU shot 50 percent from the field (31-of-62) and hit 12-of-13 free throws. It outscored CPP from the 3-point line, 15-0. 

Twenty-five of CPP's 26 field goals were scored inside the paint. The Broncos finished 37.1 percent from the floor and hit 13-of-15 free throws. 

BRONCO NOTES: Olds' 28 points is the highest scoring output against CPP since Sonoma State's Ginny Anderson scored 29 in a 70-62 Seawolves' win Feb. 28, 2008… The Broncos have not scored a 3-pointer since La'kenya Simon-West's trey with 3:07 remaining against No. 13 UC San Diego, a span of 83-plus minutes… Members of the GNAC/CCAA Classic All-Tournament Team were: Colson, Olds (MVP), Brady, Katie Torland, Western Oregon and Jameiz Terrell, Cal State LA…. Colson's double-digit output was her 31st straight.
