POMONA – Guard Reyana Colson maintained her streak of double-digit scoring efforts and senior Stephisha Walton had a stellar night off the glass as Cal Poly Pomona earned its home and CCAA opener with a 62-48 victory over conference newcomer Cal State East Bay before 271 fans at Kellogg Gym on Friday night.

The Broncos improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2004-05 team opened 7-0 in the last year that CPP earned an NCAA postseason berth.

Colson has scored in double figures in her last 28 games and 50 in her 56 career games. She hit 7-of-9 from the floor and was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. She also had six rebounds, three assists and one steal in 28 minutes of work.

Walton was a point shy of her first double-double of the season. She had 10 rebounds with nine points and recorded her 12th double-digit rebounding effort in her two-year career.

The Broncos took care of business early as they held CSUEB to 15 first-half points.

CPP worked a 21-1 run after Nia Bravo tied the game at 4-4 with 18:44 in the first half. Colson hit a pair of free throws, and later added a layup. Megan Ford sandwiched a layup inside another Colson jumper and the Broncos led 12-4 with 16:19 left.

Over the next five minutes, CPP took command. Ford hit a free throw and Walton answered with a pair of field goals and CPP led 17-4 with 14:08 left.

After a CSUEB free throw, Rosslyn Beard hit a field goal and a free throw, junior La'kenya Simon-West drained a 3-poitner and Walton added two free throws and the Broncos were comfortably ahead, 25-5 with 11:02 left. They would lead 40-15 at the break.

CPP outscored the Pioneers 16-0 inside the paint in the opening half.

A pair of Jennifer Bryant free throws pushed CPP's lead to 61-35 with 5:47 left, before CSUEB closed the game on a 13-1 run.

Eleven Broncos scored on the night. Simon-West had eight points off the bench and Ford had seven – all in the first half. Senior Jessica Duran tied her career-high with seven points.

The Broncos face defending CCAA champion and 12th-ranked UC San Diego on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

The Pioneers (0-2 ,0-1) were led by reserve Emily Valenziano's 14 points.
