CARSON
– You would be right to say that Cal Poly Pomona's comeback victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday was one for the ages.

In the 27-year history of Bronco women's soccer, no team has comeback from a 3-goal deficit to win.

Until Sunday.

Trailing 3-0 at halftime, the visiting Broncos rallied with a frenzied attack in the second half to force overtime and then went on to earn a 4-3 victory in double overtime on junior Miya Quinn's goal in the game's 104th minute.

The victory pushes Cal Poly Pomona to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA, while CSUDH drops to 2-4, 1-2.

It was CPP's first win at CSUDH since a 2-1 victory in 2006.

“This is a win that the girls can take tremendous pride in earning,'' coach Isabelle Harvey said. “To say that we started out slow would be an understatement. The effort they showed in never giving up and continuing to push toward getting back in the game is remarkable.

“It's not often that you can rally back from three goals on the road and to do it against a quality opponent. I'm so proud of their effort today.''

CPP fell behind early, giving up two goals inside the game's first 17 minutes. And when the Toros' Jessica Murphy scored on a free kick at the 32nd minute, CPP faced almost certain defeat.

Senior Mary Carroll got CPP on the scoreboard in the 55th minute when she scored on a left-foot shot on an assist from sophomore Carolyn Rubendall  and scored once again 27 minutes later on a feed from sophomores Kailah Martin and Callie Wilson  to draw the Broncos to within a goal.

Carroll's goals were her 26th and 27th in her career and pushes her to sixth on the CPP all-time goals chart. She surpassed Lisa Arajuo (2001-04) and now stands two behind Sarah Strange's 29 for fifth place.

Four minutes later, sophomore Valerie Strawn continued CPP's momentum with an unassisted goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

CSUDH mustered the opening OT's only shot on goal and sophomore Ashley Salerno came up big to keep the game tied at 3-3.

But Quinn, who began her college career at Division I Northern Arizona, came up big to cap the largest comeback in the sport's 503-game history.

Salerno earned the victory and also improved to 5-1 on the year. She was credited with five saves.
