SAN FRANCISCO
– Cal Poly Pomona has never lost more than three straight games since Greg Kamansky took over the Broncos program in the 2000-01 season.

Kamansky's crew made sure that inauspicious streak wasn't extended Friday night as the Broncos earned a spirited 63-60 victory over host San Francisco State in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

The Broncos snapped their season-long three-game losing streak and improved to 8-5 overall and 6-4 in the CCAA. SFSU dropped to 12-6, 5-5.

Sophomore Dwayne Fells and senior Austin Swift each scored 15 points for the Broncos, who led throughout most of the game and never trailed by more than two points. Freshman reserve Kevin Ryan gave the Broncos a lift off the bench with a career-high 10 points on 3-of-4 3-point shooting in 16 minutes.

Fells was 7-of-11 from the field and also grabbed six rebounds. Swift shot a season-best 7-of-8 from the free throw line and also had six rebounds. Senior point guard Dahir Nasser had five points with a season-best five rebounds with four assists, and junior Donnelle Booker was steady with six points, three rebounds and season-bests in blocks (four) and steals (three).

Playing without junior All-CCAA forward Tobias Jahn, who did not make the trip due to an injury, CPP defeated perhaps the conference's most physical team on its home court. The Broncos dressed nine players and eight played no less than 16 minutes. Only junior reserve Mark Rutledge did not score.

CPP held a 33-27 halftime lead, thanks to its 52-percent effort from the field (13-of-25). The Broncos held SFSU to just 11-of-29 from the field in the opening 20 minutes and led through most of the half.

Gator Phoenix O'Rourke hit two straight 3-pointers to give SFSU a 42-41 lead with 9:33 remaining in the game. But Nasser answered with a field goal and Swift hit a 3-pointer that gave CPP the lead back (46-42) with 8:11 left.

CPP remained ahead down the stretch, but SFSU wasn't far behind and grabbed its last lead of the night when Marquel Hoskins hit the second of a two-shot foul and the Gators led 58-57 with 1:37 left.

But four seconds later Fells drove inside, scored and fouled. He converted the three-point play and the Broncos then held off the Gators down the stretch.

Hoskins shared game-high scoring honors with Fells and Swift at 15 and Tim Pratt had 14.

The Broncos complete the weekend trip to the Bay Area with Saturday's contest at Cal State Monterey Bay. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

BRONCO NOTES: The Broncos hold a 57-22 record in games after losses during the Kamansky era… Six Broncos average 20 minutes or more with Swift leading the way at 32.3 minutes/game… Matthew Rosser earned his third straight start of the season and responded with seven points in 26 minutes… The game was the 11th time CPP held its foe to 60 points or less.
