BOX SCORE: CPP 71, CSU East Bay 60
HAYWARD -- Senior Dahir Nasser scored a career-high 16 points and sophomore Dwayne Fells also had 16, tying his career high, as the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos won their fourth straight game -- all away from Kellogg Gym -- with Saturday's 71-60 victory over Cal State East Bay.
The Broncos are now 11-5 overall and 9-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
CSUEB dropped to 5-13 and 2-11.
CPP fired 52.1 percent from the floor and improved its record to 90-9 during Coach Greg Kamansky's nine-plus years when the Broncos shoot more than 50-percent FGs.
Junior Donnelle Booker added 14 points and sophomore Matthew Rosser chipped in a career-high 11 for CPP, ranked 10th in the initial NCAA West Region poll released Wednesday.
It's been a season of ironman play as CPP dressed nine and seven scored. Factoring into the victory was the fine field-goal shooting that each of the four double-figure scorers secured. Nasser, Fells, Booker and Rosser combined on 21-of-31 shooting – a 68-percent effort.
CPP's leading scorer Austin Swift was held to just six points and picked up four fouls in the first half. But the Santa Cruz native picked up his play, both off the glass and on the floor, in the second half. He finished with seven rebounds and dished off five assists – both game highs.
Trailing 28-27 at halftime, CPP shot 57.1 (16-of-28) from the floor in the final 20 minutes. For the game, CPP outscored the Pioneers 23-11 off turnovers and forced 17 CSUEB miscues.
Donavan Jackson led CSUEB with 11 points.
The Broncos take on CCAA-leading CSU San Bernardino on Tuesday night in San Bernardino. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
