POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team jumped out to a 3-0 lead Sunday at home against San Francisco State but saw the Gators rally for two unanswered scores to cut the advantage to 3-2. The Broncos held on for the one-goal victory though, completing a 2-0 weekend.
The Broncos improve to 7-4-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Gators drop to 6-5-1 overall and 4-5-1 through league play.
Jonathan Enns continued his strong play as he scored just one minute and 28 seconds into the match. The scored remained 1-0 until the 30th minute, when the Broncos struck for two scores in the span of 11 seconds.
Luis Gonzalez knocked a shot to the back of the net at 29:06 and
Anthony Salcedo got into the scoring spree at 29:17, bumping the lead up to 3-0 in a hurry.
Active throughout the 90 minutes, Gonzalez was a part of the three CPP scores after earning assists on the Enns and Salcedo scores.
Just before the end of the first half, the visiting Gators got on the board with a goal from Tony Terrazas. The score stayed 3-1 up to the 87th minute, when SFSU's Edgar Villagrana trimmed the lead to 3-2.
The Broncos' defense held tough though in the final moments and CPP goalkeeper
Andrew Todd tallied six saves on the day.
Up next for the Broncos will be a road match at Cal State San Bernardino Friday.
