POMONA, Calif. –
After winning its last two matches at home, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team will take to the road this weekend to close out the regular season.

Despite requiring some help from other teams in the standings, the Broncos are still alive in the race to grab spots in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament. CPP will challenge Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7 p.m. Friday and then take on Cal State L.A. Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The Broncos are currently in fourth place in the CCAA's South Division, at 7-6-1 through league action and 9-6-1 overall. CSUDH holds second (8-4-2) and CSULA is in third (8-5-1). Cal State San Bernardino (12-3-1), carrying a five-match winning streak, holds the top spot in the division and the top spot in the latest NCAA Division II regional rankings.

Gonzalez Seizes Points Lead
Luis Gonzalez, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., now holds the conference lead in points, after collecting five goals and three assists last weekend. Gonzalez set a new CCAA single-game record in points with 10 on Sunday in the Broncos' 7-0 rout of Cal State East Bay. He tallied four goals and two assists, breaking the previous record that was set on Sept. 21, 2006 by Andres Ripa of Humboldt State with nine points. This season, Gonzalez has netted 33 points. Obi Agwu (Cal State San Bernardino) and Trevor Hurst (Sonoma State) are tied for second in the league with 25 points each.

Scouting the Toros
CSUDH suffered two losses to CSULA last week, before rebounding with a 4-0 road win against Hawaii Hilo. The Toros have proved to be a tough squad at home in 2010, holding a 6-1-2 mark in Carson. The Turoldo brothers have led CSUDH offensively this season, with Andre registering seven goals and seven assists while Diego has contributed five goals and five assists. CSUDH defeated CPP on Sept. 26, 1-0, as Scott Locken netted the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Toros. In the all-time series, CSUDH leads the Broncos 35-10-6.

Scouting the Golden Eagles
CSULA lifted itself back into strong contention for a playoff spot last week, with back-to-back victories over CSUDH. In the most recent contest, the two squads remained locked at 2-2 into the waning moments of the match's second overtime. Tyler Coombes lifted a shot over the head of Toros' goalkeeper Markus Dickerson for the game-winner with 1:57 remaining. On Sunday against CPP, the Golden Eagles will be looking for redemption after losing to the Broncos at Kellogg Field on Sept. 24. In that game, Gonzalez and Anthony Salcedo en route to the 2-0 CPP win.
