RENO, Nev. –
The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team proved to be a formidable foe Friday at Nevada, as the Broncos rallied back from a large deficit early to outscore the Wolf Pack in the second half. CPP ended up falling, 82-71, to the Division I opponent from the Western Athletic Conference.

“I think there might have been some nerves when we went down early,” Broncos' head coach Danelle Bishop said. “We made some adjustments at halftime and I'm really proud of the heart and determination they showed tonight.”

Friday served as the season opener for CPP (0-1) and the Broncos will return to Pomona to host Dominican on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Wolf Pack improves to 1-1 in 2010.

CPP fell behind as many as 21 points in the first half but it didn't faze Bishop's squad. The Broncos chipped away at the lead and found themselves down 47-32 at halftime. With Reyana Colson and La'kenya Simon West leading the way, CPP trimmed Nevada's advantage to just seven points with six minutes remaining.

The Wolf Pack pulled away from that point on but the 11-point margin still showed the progress CPP made in the preseason.

Nevada's Tahnee Robinson put together an impressive performance, collecting 33 points on 12-for-21 shooting. She hit five of her 10 three-point attempts.

Colson nearly netted a double-double, finishing with a team-high 23 points and nine rebounds. Megan Ford went 9-for-11 from the free throw line en route to a 17-point performance.

“The big key to our second half was limiting Nevada's three-point attempts, especially from Robinson," Bishop said. "Once we kept the ball away from her, it put pressure on their other players.”

The Wolf Pack went 6-for-12 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes but only managed four attempts in the second half. The Broncos held Nevada to 34.6 shooting during that closing period. CPP also found some three-point range late, as the Broncos went 5-for-11 through the final 20 minutes.

Five CPP players collected two steals apiece and freshman #J.J. Judge# totaled two blocks in her 26 minutes played off the bench. The Broncos excelled in grabbing offensive rebounds Friday, tallying 12, including three from both Colson and Ford.
