CARSON, Calif. –
The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team got off to a tremendous start in conference play Friday, cruising to a 79-45 road victory against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Four CPP players scored in double figures at the Torodome: Megan Ford (15), La'kenya Simon West (14), Reyana Colson (12) and Rosslyn Beard (10).

"Megan was unstoppable inside and could have had a double double if I had kept her on the court longer," Broncos' head coach Danelle Bishop said. "La'kenya stepped up and hit some tough shots as well. It was nice to get our offense going quickly because before we had been having some slow starts."

The 34-point margin marked the widest spread in a Broncos' victory since a 2006 win over Chaminade, 91-48. Tonight's margin also serves as the biggest for CPP over the Toros in 11 years, as CSUDH lost 92-48 in the 1999-2000 campaign. In the Broncos' opening two wins of this season, CPP has outscored its opponents 159-100.

Defensively Friday, the Broncos held the Toros to just one point in the opening seven minutes of the second half. On the offensive end, CPP scored 16 points in that span while hitting its first five attempts of that period. As a team, the Broncos shot 48.3 percent as a team through the full 40 minutes.

CPP improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, while CSUDH falls to 0-6 overall and 0-2 through league play.

The Broncos used a 17-2 run between the 15:00 and 7:45 marks of the first half to build their largest lead of the opening period at 29-11. That stretch of scoring featured points from seven different CPP players, exhibiting the balance of the Broncos' offense.

Although CPP shot just 61.9 percent from the free throw line, CSUDH performed even worse with a 60-percent mark. The Broncos made up for it in the turnover battle, totaling just 10 while forcing 26 from the Toros.

Simon West provided a boost to the CPP offense from three-point range, hitting four of her five trey attempts. The Broncos pushed their lead to as many as 37 after a layup from Jennifer Bryant with about three minutes remaining to play.

Junior transfer Charlene Popoff made her Broncos' debut Friday, finishing with six points on 3-for-4 shooting and adding two assists.

CPP has now won its last five meetings with CSUDH and in the all-time series, the Broncos own a 54-13 advantage.

Up next, CPP will challenge Cal State L.A. (3-1 overall, 1-1 CCAA) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles suffered a heartbreaking home loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, 60-58.
