POMONA, Calif. – A dismal shooting performance doomed the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team Thursday, as the Broncos fell to the undefeated Cal State Monterey Bay squad, 54-48.

CPP went 14-for-53 from the field, just 26.4 percent, and Reyana Colson getting into early foul trouble and eventually fouling out hurt the Broncos chances late in the contest.

Megan Ford stepped up for CPP in the rebounding category, grabbing 12 boards to go along with her 14 points. It marked her eighth career double-double performance.

Heading into the new year, Thursday's loss doesn't detract a great deal from how well the Broncos have started the 2010-11 campaign. CPP sits at 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Meanwhile, CSUMB maintains its undefeated record with marks of 9-0 overall and 5-0 through league play.

The Otters came out of the gates strong on Thursday, pulling out to a 19-12 lead with nine minutes passed. Strong free throw shooting from the Broncos kept the home squad close and CPP even stole the advantage late in the opening period.

With the score even at 26-26 with two minutes remaining in the first half, the Otters' London Houchin knocked down four-straight attempts from the strike to give CSUMB the 30-26 lead going into the intermission.

Just about six minutes into the next period, Colson collected her fourth foul of the game and the coaching staff took her out to avoid her drawing her fifth. In the following seven minutes with her on the bench, the Otters outscored the Broncos 14-4.

CPP didn't back down though and put together its own run late in regulation, going on a 16-2 run that featured three treys from #J.J. Judge#. The freshman finished with a career-high 12 points in her 17 minutes played.

The Broncos found themselves down 50-45 with 1:52 to play in the contest but CSUMB converted its final four free throw attempts to escape Kellogg Gym with a victory.

Colson concluded the night with nine points in 26 minutes played.

Up next for CPP will be a road trip to Northern California, where the Broncos will face Sonoma State on Jan. 6 and Humboldt State on Jan. 8.
