LOS ANGELES -
Reyana Colson scored a career-high 34 points Saturday night, lifting the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team to a 76-63 win at Cal State L.A.

The record-setting night for the Compton, Calif., native also included 10 rebounds and three assists as Colson tallied double double No. 17 of her four-year career as a Bronco. She also knocked down a career-high 15 free throws in 18 attempts.

The Broncos improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Golden Eagles fall to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Colson's point total of 34 stands as the highest for a CPP player since Candice Allen recorded 35 on Feb. 5, 2005.

Two other Broncos scored in double figures at the Eagles Nest Saturday, with La'kenya Simon West recording 16 points and Rosslyn Beard netting a career-high 13 points.

The first half between CPP and CSULA was fiercely contested, as control of the lead changed on four different occasions. The Golden Eagles held a five-point advantage early but after the score became tied at 34-34 late in the period, Jennifer Bryant sunk a buzzer-beater three-pointer to give the Broncos extra momentum heading into halftime.

CPP didn't trail at all during the second half, which is when Colson did the majority of her damage. She tallied 20 of her 34 points in those final 20 minutes and also grabbed seven of her 10 rebounds in that span. Beard also caught fire late, notching 10 points in the closing period.

Although the two squads shot almost identical percentages, with CPP hitting at 41.2 percent and CSULA firing at 40.7 percent, the Broncos used a 41-32 rebounding edge to their advantage. In addition to Colson grabbing 10, Megan Ford contributed nine rebounds of her own along with eight points.

For the Golden Eagles, Gretchen Tiernan starred offensively with a 17-point night. Lacy Ramon also put together a strong performance with 14 points and seven assists.

The victory marked the third-straight for CPP and completed a strong 2-0 opening weekend of CCAA action. After focusing on final exams this coming week, the Broncos return to action on Dec. 17 when they start competition at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC)/CCAA Challenge to be held at the same Eagles Nest of CSULA.

CPP will challenge Western Oregon and Northwest Nazarene in that two-day event.
