POMONA—Bronco student-athletes Dwayne Fells and Stephisha Walton have been named the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Male and Female Athletes of the Month for January at Cal Poly Pomona.
The awards are voted upon by the student-based Bronco Athletics Association.
Fells (Fullerton) is a sophomore on the men's basketball team and has played well during CPP's best stretch of play this season. In 11 games for the month, Fells averaged 9.8 points a game and grabbed 4.1 rebounds a contest. He scored a career-high 16 points in the win at Cal State East Bay.
It is Fells' first career PVHMC honor.
Walton (Vallejo) averaged a double-double in the 11 Bronco games – averaging 13.2 points and 10.9 rebounds a contest. She scored in double digits in nine game with a season-best 20 against Cal State L.A. She reached double digits in rebounds in six games with a career-best 18 against Humboldt State.
The award is Walton's first in her career.
