GLENDALE, Ariz. – Cal Poly Pomona kicked off its men's tennis season in style Friday night, earning a 9-0 win over Montana State-Billings at the Presidents' Day Duals, sponsored by Grand Canyon University and the Paseo Racquet Club.
"We earned a shutout, but I didn't consider it a walk-through,'' Broncos coach Sandy Kriezel said. "We had a couple of tie-breakers, but once the guys settled into it, we played very well.
Wining in straight sets were: senior
Josh Lau at No. 3, junior #
Shane McNulty# at No. 4, junior #
Keith Boggero at No. 5 and senior James Lee# at No. 6.
Earning a pair of victories on the day were: junior #
Salvador Romero# (No. 2 singles, No. 1 doubles); Boggero and Lau at No. 2 doubles, and junior #
Robby Dabbs# and McNulty at No. 3 doubles.
Dabbs earned a 4-6, 6-0 (10-7) win at No. 1 for the Broncos, who face West Region power BYU Hawaii at 12:30 p.m. MST this afternoon.
