LOS ANGELES
– Sophomore Dwayne Fells scored a career-high 18 points and junior Donnelle Booker added 15 as the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos won their 10th straight game with a 68-54 victory over the host Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles on Friday night.

CPP remains tied for the top spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with Humboldt State at 15-4 – one game ahead of CSU San Bernardino and CSU Dominguez Hills. The Broncos, who also have won their last eight road games, are 17-5 overall, while CSULA dropped to 13-11, 9-10.

The victory was a meaningful one as CSULA was the last team to defeat the Broncos in a 54-53 victory on Jan. 16. CPP took command early in this one, leading 21-4 just 11 minutes in and up 33-16 at halftime.

Coach Greg Kamansky's crew led by as much as 29 points – 52-23 with 11:45 left.

The Golden Eagles whittled the lead down the stretch, but never got inside 10 points. Twice CSULA reached an 11-point difference, only to be turned back each stint.

Fells has been a force for CPP during its 10-game stretch of success. Averaging 61.4 percent FG shooting for the season, the Fullerton has fired 67.3 percent over the last seven games and scored in double figures in the last four games.

Freshman Mitchel Anderson was solid off the bench, tying his season-best with 14 points that included two 3-pointers and perfect in four attempts from the free throw line.

Senior Austin Swift was the only other Bronco in double figures with 12.

The Broncos face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

BRONCO NOTES: The game ended CPP's stretch of four consecutive games hitting better than 50 percent from the field – the best stretch during Kamansky's 10 years. The Broncos were 20-of-47, 42.6 percent… CSULA's Chris Field, the CCAA's second-leading scorer at 16.1 ppg, was held to five points less than his average… The Broncos have won less than 17 games only once during the Kamansky era (going 13-15 in 2007-08)… The Broncos are 33-7 stretching to last year when Fells is in the starting lineup… Free throw shooting has been a sore spot for CPP, but the Broncos established season bests in free throws made (26) and attempts (36).
