LOS ANGELES – Cal Poly Pomona raced to a 32-7 halftime lead in its game against host Cal State L.A. and went on to win convincingly, 61-41, in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball Friday night.
The Broncos, now 18-5 overall and 15-4 CCAA, won for the 14th time in their last 17 games and fifth in their last six games.
CSULA dropped to 4-20, 2-17.
Coach Scott Davis' team is in second place in the CCAA, two games behind nationally-ranked UC San Diego and one game ahead of third-place Humboldt State with three games remaining. The Broncos need one more win or one more CSU Monterey Bay loss to assure themselves a first-round home game in the CCAA Tournament that begins March 2. The two teams play each other Thursday night at Kellogg Gym.
CPP has dominated on the defensive end all season long and Friday night was no different. For the second time in as many games, the Broncos held their opponent to single digits in a half; last Saturday at Sonoma State, CPP held the Seawolves to nine in the second half.
In fact, CPP's 30-6 run to begin the game was its best run of the season.
Junior
Reyana Colson recorded her second-straight double-double with a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate
Megan Ford followed with 15 points as CPP fired 40.4 from the floor (19-of-47) and held the Golden Eagles to only 2-of-25 from the floor in the first half.
CPP completes the weekend with its game at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
