SAN BERNARDINO – Cal Poly Pomona increased its winning streak to three consecutive matches as the Broncos pushed past Cal State San Bernardino 8-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's tennis Thursday.
The Broncos, now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA, swept their doubles matches and took five of six in singles. CPP faces La Verne on Friday, before playing host to Cal State Stanislaus.
Both matches will be played at the Kellogg Tennis Complex.
“We're doing a nice job of playing at an even-keel,'' Broncos coach Sandy Kriezel said. “The girls played well, we got out early and won.''
Christie Lau, this week's CCAA Player of the Week, remained unbeaten at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. She stands 5-0 overall and improved her record to 5-0 in doubles play with junior
Kaitlin Wooldridge, winning at No. 2.
Kriezel singled out the play of
Jackie Trendt, who was a first-team All-CCAA choice as a freshman last season.
“Jackie showed patience and played smart,'' she said. “She was especially effective at finishing her points.''
