POMONA
– More than a month ago, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball had done something that hadn't happened during Greg Kamansky's 10 years.

And one month later, the ill feeling of losing three straight games at home completely disappeared as a much more noteworthy and historical event took place.

The Broncos have put together a run for the ages as they earned their school-record 13th straight win and capped their second-straight California Collegiate Athletic Association title with a dominating 77-54 victory over San Francisco State before a season-best crowd of 1,367 at Kellogg Gym on Friday night.

“To play so well tonight against a well-coached team like San Francisco State that you know is going to fight to the very end, is incredibly gratifying,'' said Kamansky, who won his third CCAA title in his 10 years. “It never got less than 14 in the second half and they never let up.

“We were really energized and I thought we performed with playoff-form tonight. We were motivated to win a title, but more importantly and what I'm pleased with, is that the guys played very hard for our two seniors. They wanted Dahir (Nasser) and Austin (Swift) to go out winners.''

The Broncos fired a blistering 59.6 percent (31-of-52) from the floor and were never threatened as they led from the outset. Senior Donnelle Booker completed a stellar weekend, going 7-of-9 from the floor and scoring a game-high 15 points.

He was followed by Swift and freshman Mitchel Anderson's 14 apiece and junior Tobias Jahn's 13.

The Broncos jumped out to a 31-10 lead with 6:22 remaining in the first half and were in complete command. They held the Gators to just seven field goals in the first 20 minutes, then kept the pressure going in the second half.

Booker, who was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field in Thursday's win over CSU Monterey Bay, put together his most impressive back-to-back effort this season. He also had three blocks, two assists and five rebounds and threw down two dunks.

Swift showed his normal consistency with a 5-of-8 effort and seven rebounds with six assists. Anderson, who has come on as of late, fired his sixth double-digit game in the last eight.

The accolades are many on this night, but the well-rounded scoring Kamansky received was vital. Senior guard Dahir Nasser, in his final regular season home game, pumped in eight with two assists and a steal in 29 minutes, before Kamansky pulled his two seniors with 1:56.

“Those two have given their all to this program in the last few years,'' Kamansky said. “They were pivotal in our postseason run a year ago and have given us the necessary leadership that quality teams need. We're not in this position if we don't have those two young men in our program.''

Phoenix O'Rourke led the Gators (17-13, 10-12) with 11 points.

The Broncos own the top seed in next week's tournament and will play host to Cal State L.A. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
