BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Senior guard
Austin Swift was named to the second-team Daktronics West Region men's basketball team, the company announced Wednesday.
Swift, a 6-foot-5 Santa Cruz native, leads the Broncos in scoring at 12.4 points a game as CPP prepares for this week's NCAA West Region Tournament. CPP (22-6) faces Dixie State College of St. George, Utah, at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Western Washington University in Bellingham.
The two-time All-CCAA guard had led the Broncos to a 31-8 all-time record when he scores in double digits. Last week, Swift was named to the CCAA All-Tournament team where the Broncos finished second to CSU San Bernardino.
Swift played a critical role on last year's NCAA finalist team. He is a two-year starter since transferring from the University of Montana in 2007. He has played on two CCAA regular-season championship teams while at CPP.
Players selected to the region first team will now be listed on the Daktronics All-American national ballot. The All-American team will be announced later this month.
The selections are made by the sports information directors at the region's schools that sponsor men's basketball. The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
