BELLINGHAM, Wash
. – Any sort of monikers would describe the 2009-10 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos men's basketball team – Road Warriors, March Magicians are a few good ones.

It will take one more victory over a familiar foe to add this beauty of a slogan:

“Bound for Springfield”

In one of the most complete games played by both teams this season, Broncos' All-CCAA forward Dwayne Fells scored the game-winning basket with 0.6 seconds remaining in overtime as the Broncos upset No. 15 Western Washington 76-75 in the NCAA West Regional semifinals Saturday night.

“Our guys showed poise, character and determination tonight,'' said coach Greg Kamansky, whose team now moves on to the title game for the second straight year against BYU Hawaii for the right to advance to the Elite Eight. “We showed our experience tonight with one of the most competitive games I've been a part of because both teams were championship-caliber in a great college game.''

The Broncos, winners of 17 of their last 18 games, and Seasiders (22-5 overall) will play at 7 p.m. Monday night in the title game.

Trailing 75-74 with 20 seconds left in OT, CPP had the ball for the final possession. The Vikings had two fouls to give before sending CPP to the free throw line and they stopped the clock twice on fouls by Harold McAllister and Morris Anderson.

That set-up the final play for the Broncos. All-CCAA guard Dahir Nasser inbounded the ball and found Fells open in the high post. The Fullerton native drove inside the lane on the right side and laid up a shot that caromed off the glass and dropped through with 0.6 seconds left.

Anderson tossed up a desperation heave that fell wide left and the Broncos celebrated their victory before a small gathering of fans that made the trip to the Pacific Northwest.

You could take your pick at any one of the several key moments that allowed CPP to extend its school-record road winning streak to 10 games.

• Freshman Mitchel Anderson hitting a deep 3-pointer from the right wing that put CPP up 74-73 with 35 seconds left in OT

• Junior Donnelle Booker's 3-pointer with one second left in the first half that gave CPP a 37-36 halftime lead

• Senior Austin Swift, who shot 10-of-15 from the floor and finished with a team-high 22 points – just two shy of his career-best

• Swift's driving layin with 0.6 seconds left in regulation that forced OT at 69-apiece

But nothing was bigger than Fells' game-winning shot that pushes CPP (24-6 overall) into the Elite Eight title game for the second straight season and for the fourth time in the last eight years.

"What can you say about the determination and leadership shown tonight by our two seniors,'' Kamansky said. "Austin showed for the second straight game that he's playing at an elite level. He's taken his game up a notch. And Dahir is just so steady and effifcient. You couldn't ask anything more out of what they gave us tonight.

"And Dwayne worked himself into position to make a play. Something special's happening right now.''

And standing in the way is the team CPP upset last season on its home court in the Seasiders, who are led by last year's Player of the Year Lucas Alves.

“(BYU Hawaii) is a dangerous team and everyone saw what they did to a very good Cal State San Bernardino team,'' said Kamansky of the Seasiders, who defeated second-seeded Coyotes 77-58 in the night's opening semifinal game. “We're going to enjoy our win tonight and prepare for a team that has many weapons.''

The Broncos shot 56.9 percent from the floor on 33-of-58 shooting, WWU was just behind at 55.6 percent -- 30 for 54.

Swift finished with 22 points and Booker had 15. Fells was the other Bronco in double figures with 11. The three combined to shoot 22-for-34 -- a 64.7 percent clip.

Derrick Webb had a game-high 23 for WWU, which finished 26-6. The loss was just its second this season on its home court.

BRONCO NOTES: The title game will be available on www.wwuvikings.com.... The victory increased CPP's record to 100-9 when the Broncos shoot 50 percent or better FGs during Kamansky's 10 years...
