POMONA -- Behind the strength of its singles players, Cal Poly Pomona came back to post a key CCAA victory with a 6-3 decision over Sonoma State on Saturday at the Kellogg Tennis Complex.
The Broncos improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA as they now enjoy Spring Break. CPP returns to the courts on March 21 when they play host to nonconference Dominican.
"We played well in our doubles matches, it just didn't result in wins,'' Broncos coach Sandy Kriezel said. "But us to come back and post five of six in singles shows our ability is there. This team is playing well and better things are to come.''
No. 1 doubles
Jackie Trendt and
Jennifer Chow got the ball rollng with an 8-5 win.
But the Broncos overpowered the Seawolves in singles play. Freshman
Christie Lau decisively defeated Stephanie Luk 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and her teammates followed suit.
Trendt earned her second victory of the day at No. 2 as did Chow at No. 3.
Senior
Mallory Brady continued her fine play as of late with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 and junior
Kaitlin Wooldridge defeated Molly Maguire 6-4, 6-3
