KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Senior guard
Austin Swift was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) men's basketball West Region team, the coaches association announced this week.
Swift, a 6-foot-5 Santa Cruz native, leads the Broncos in scoring at 13.1 points a game as CPP prepares for next week's NCAA Elite Eight Tournament to be held at the birthplace of the sport -- Springfield, Mass.
CPP (25-6) faces St. Joseph's of Indiana at 6:00 p.m. EDT on March 24 in the MassMutual Center in downtown Springfield.
The two-time All-CCAA guard had led the Broncos to a 33-8 all-time record when he scores in double digits. On Monday night, Swift was named the NCAA West Regional's Most Outstanding Player as he averaged 19.7 points a game in leading CPP to its second straight West Region title and the fourth title in the last eight years.
Swift played a critical role on last year's NCAA finalist team. He is a two-year starter since transferring from the University of Montana in 2007. He has played on two CCAA regular-season championship teams and two Elite Eight teams while at CPP.
The All-American team will be announced later this month.
The selections are made by members of the NABC.
