SAN BERNARDINO -- Junior Travis Taijeronwent 3-for-3 with a solo home run as Cal Poly Pomona earned a split Saturday in its doubleheader at CSU San Bernardino, losing 11-7 in the opener and winning 9-7 in the 7-inning finale.
The Broncos, now 20-21 overall and 12-16 in the CCAA, play eight of their next 12 games on the road beginning with this week's series at Cal State East Bay. The Broncos and Pioneers begin the series at 2 p.m. Friday.
CPP will face CSU Stanislaus to close its home portion of 2010 on April 23-25. The Broncos close the season April 30-May 2 at Sonoma State.
Taijeron also scored four runs as CPP led from the outset, but staved off the Coyotes, who scored four runs in the sixth inning after beginning the inning down 9-3.
In the third inning, CPP scored three runs on four hits with a pair of CSUSB errors. Marcus Makia and Erik Riedel each had RBI-singles after Taijeron scored when Jenzen Torres struck out, but reached base on a dropped third strike.
Makia added a two-run double in the fourth and later added an RBI-double in the sixth.
Broncos sophomore RHP Geoff Broussard earned the win. The Alta Loma native scattered 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs (six earned).
Scott Sibley earned the save for first on the year.
In the opener, CSUSB took advantage of an error in the sixth inning as it went on to win 11-7.
CPP led 7-2 entering the sixth, but when Broncos starter Jarett Attard committed a throwing error to first, CSUSB took advantage as Ryan Hulbert next hit a 3-run homer to pull the Coyotes to within two runs.
The Coyotes tied the game at 7-7 in the seventh, then pulled ahead for good with a four-run eighth.
