Broncos close regular season with 7-2 win over Cal State L.A.

CPP awaits potential NCAA tourney berth

POMONA – Twenty-fifth ranked Cal Poly Pomona made certain that its opponent Cal State L.A. would be in for a long day during Tuesday's regular-season women's tennis finale. 

The Broncos took all three doubles matches and won four of six singles matches in their 7-2 victory over the Golden Eagles at the Kellogg Tennis Complex. 

The Broncos, 14-5 overall and 7-3 in the CCAA, are in contention for an NCAA Tourney berth. The brackets will be announced in the final week of April. 

The day also was Senior Day. Mallory Brady was recognized in a prematch ceremony. Fellow senior Fallon Blattner was not in attendance as she was visiting the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. Blattner is a member of the university's ROTC and will become a commissioned officer when she graduates this spring. 

Junior Jennifer Chow and sophomore Jackie Trendt earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 and each won her singles match. Trendt earned a 6-0, 6-4 win over Linda Majzlikova at No. 2 and Chow, who was named the CCAA Player of the Week on Monday, won, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3. 

Brady and freshman Jennifer Buchanan earned an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles and the senior from Torrance went on to win 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. 

Kaitlin Wooldridge earned a doubles victory at No. 2 with freshman Christie Lau (9-7). Wooldridge came back to win 6-3, 6-7 (10-4) win at No. 5 singles.
