POMONA
-- Senior Jarett Attard has had his share of ups and down in his 5-year career at Cal Poly Pomona.

But on Sunday, the Poway native pitched the game of his baseball life on Senior Day and his teammates were right there for support -- both at the plate and in the field.

Attard took a perfect game into the eighth inning and threw no-hit ball for 7 2/3 innings as Cal Poly Pomona set season-highs for runs and hits in a whopping 17-5 victory over Cal State Stanislaus in California Collegiate Athletic Association play before 331 fans at Scolinos Field.

The Broncos, now 23-26 overall and 15-21 in the CCAA, snapped their three-game losing streak on a beautiful, sunny afternoon in Southern California. Eight players had mult-hit games for CPP, but this day was all about the slender right-hander who was in command from the get-go.

"I had a feeling things were going well early,'' Attard said. "They hit shots early on, but each of my guys made plays. That made me confident and things just kind of kept rolling.''

Through seven innings, Attard (2-2) was cool and in control. He forced 12 flyouts, six groundouts and three strikeouts in those seven innings.

In that span, the only sign of trouble was in the sixth when Vince Hungerford led-off and worked a 3-0 count. Attard worked the count full and got out of the jam when he forced the batter to fly out to center.

"I figured that if I could get (Hangerford) to hit the ball, that one of our guys was going to make a play,'' Attard said.

The perfect game went away when he walked Michael Johnson to lead off the eighth. He then forced Douglas Porras out on a 4-3 ground-out.

The no-hitter remained intact on the next play. John Canepa hit a hard grounder to third baseman Richard McDowell, who mishandled the play and was charged with an error.

Hungerford then flew out to center, but pinch-hitter Colton Beatty broke up the no-hit bid when he hit a hard grounder to the right of second base for a clean  hit.

Attard got through the eighth and threw to one batter in the ninth and was taken out of the game when he gave up a lead-off single to Kory Vitato in the ninth.

CPP made sure that Attard's standout performance would hold up as they made CSUS pay big-time. The Broncos put four on the board in the third, four in the fifth, three in the sixth and six in the seventh.

Taijeron connected for his CCAA-leading 13th home run of the season in the seventh.

Senior Manny Navarro was 3-for-6 with two doubles and Taijeron finished with five RBI. Senior Erik Riedel had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-5 -- all singles - and two RBI.

Seniors Jordan Alcantar and David Jaques each had two RBI.

Pinch-hitter Joshua Krist added an RBI-double in his first at-bat of the season.

CPP concludes the season this week with a four-game series at Sonoma State, beginning Friday.
