Broncos honored with CCAA All-Academic Awards

Forty student-athletes recognized

WALNUT CREEK -- Forty Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes earned 2009-10 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic Awards, conference commissioner Robert J. Hiegert announced.

"Our student-athletes put forth a tremendous commitment toward their respective sports and academics,'' Director of Athletics #Brian Swanson# said. "These 40 individuals have set high standards for themselves in their academics and we're very proud of what they have accomplished.

"We have a well-respected group of coaches and academic advising department, who continue their dedication toward developing each student-athlete.''

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a varsity letter winner who competed in one of 13 CCAA-sponsored sports and record a grade point average of 3.40 or above in a minimum of 24 semester or 36 quarter units.

The 40 Bronco student-athletes participated in 11 of the 13 CCAA-sponsored sports. Only UC San Diego, which led the way with 80 student-athletes honored, participates in all 13 sports.

The 40 Cal Poly Pomona award winners in their respective sports: men's basketball: Austin Swift; women's basketball: Rosslyn Beard; baseball: Manuel Navarro, John Pollock, Casey Yokubaitis; men's soccer: Nick Costanza, Eric Gonzalez, Christopher Otani, Jason Sanchez, Russell Vernon; women's soccer: Cody McClure, Carolyn Rubendall, Stephanie Sandino, Valerie Strawn; women's tennis: Mallory Brady, Christie Lau, Kaitlin Wooldridge; volleyball: Courtney Alberi, Camille Bulot, Jasmine Davis, Taylr Kreutziger; men's cross country: Luis Briseno; men's cross country/track and field: Matthew Prentice, Clark Selters, Christopher Vordahl; women's cross country: Ayn Learn, Tiffany Turner; women's cross country/track and field: Tiffany Dinh, Amber Hebb, Johanna Murray, Lauren Parr; women's track and field: Jennifer Adams, Allison Brewer, Rizala Carrington, Megan Emami, Alexandra Pankey; men's track and field: Corey Arnold, Shane Cioni, Anthony Drake, Connor Duckworth.
