POMONA
-- Any time a team fires off an attack percentage above .300, you know it has been a good performance.

Coach Rosie Wegrich sure thought so after her Broncos defeated visiting San Francisco State 3-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball opener Friday night.

"We spent a lot of time this week, practicing on situations late in a game,''  said Wegrich of her team that won 25-13, 25-23, 25-16. "The girls performed well tonight. They did a solid job of keeping up the pressure from the beginning to the end.''

The Broncos fired off a season-best .326 on the attack (41 kills/13 errors/86 attacks) to earn a win over  team coming off Tuesday night's victory over GNAC favorite Alaska Anchorage.

Freshman Jessica Doerner (Redondo Beach) led the way with 12 kills and fired off a .333 percentage, while junior Kristin McNeese (Torrance) played error-free on the attack (6/0/15) and sophomore Diana Lake (Covina) had a .385 percentage with seven kills.

Sophomore Lindsey Poulos (Los Altos) was equally impressive with a .533 attack percentage with nine kills in 15 attacks.

This was a dominant victory as CPP led off the match with a .440 attack in Game 1 and was never threatened.

Game 2 featured four ties before the Broncos slowly gained the lead. Sophomore Taylr Kreutziger (Villa Park) threw down a kill that put CPP out front 19-16.

The Broncos would stay out front and gained a 23-21 kills on a kill from Poulos. But SFSU cut the lead to one on a CPP attack error. Poulos added another kill to bring the game to the deciding point.

SFSU's Sarah Lewis threw down a kill to cut the lead to one, but Lake answered right back with a kill and CPP went into intermission with a 2-0 lead.

Game 3 was all CPP as it triggered an 8-2 run after the game was tied at 7-7. CPP took advantage of five SFSU attack errors during that run and the Broncos cruised into the game and match victory.

Kreutziger had five block assists and teammate McNeese had four with seven digs.

SFSU (3-3, 0-1) was led by Lewis' eight kills.

The Broncos play host to CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday night. First serve is 7 p.m.
