POMONA
-- Junior Karissa Lagmay (Burbank)  played the game of her Cal Poly Pomona career, firing off a career-high 17 kills on a .600 attack percentage as the host Broncos were defeated by NAIA power Cal Baptist 3-1 before a crowd of 190 at Darlene May Gym.

The Broncos, now 3-4 overall, return to California Collegiate Athletic Association play this weekend with matches at Cal State Dominguez Hills (Friday) and at Cal State L.A. (Saturday).

CPP gave the NAIA's No. 3-ranked team all it can handle as it took Game 1 26-24, before losing 21-25, 25-27, 21-25 in the four-game thriller.

The Broncos out-killed CBU 55-52, but the Lancers had fewer attack errors and fired off +.300 percentages in Games 2 and 4.

In Game 1, CPP found itself trailing 16-11 before finding another gear. An 11-5 run capped by two Taylr Kreutziger kills and three CBU attack errors put CPP out front 22-21.

The game would be tied two more times before CPP capitalized on a CBU attack error to move out front 25-24 and CPP won the game on a kill from freshman Jessica Doerner.

Game 2 featured a five-point run by CBU that put it out front 18-14. The Lancers, now 16-0 overall, fired off .500 on the attack for the win.

Game 3 was a back-and-forth effort by both clubs. A Jamie Kidd kill put CPP ahead 15-11, but CBU answered back.

The game was tied five times after that kill, but CPP had its shot at the win. Freshman Leeanne Currie fired a service ace that put CPP ahead 24-23.

But two kills from CBU gave them edge at 25-24. Junior Kristin McNeese tied the game with a kill, but CBU's Ingrid Carmona's kill tied the game and the Lancers won on an attack error from McNeese.

The Broncos' last lead in Game 4 was at 7-6, but they couldn't get over the hump. Ten times they got to within a point of CBU, but the Lancers held off the Broncos for the victory.

Lagmay just missed a double-double with nine digs. Kreutziger also reached double figures in kills with 11.

Sophomore libero Kelly Bonja had 19 digs and Kreutziger finished with a team-high five block assists.

Carmona led the Lancers with 20 kills . Bree Rauschenbach had five service aces.
