POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team ended its homestand on a high note Saturday, capturing a grueling five-game comeback victory over Cal State Stanislaus at Kellogg Gym.

With the result, the Broncos improve to 10-11 overall and 7-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The visiting Warriors now hold marks of 9-10 overall and 5-10 through conference action.

Sophomore setter Katie Colin, who ended up with a team-high 27 assists, served the final four points for CPP to close out the dramatic 3-2 win. Senior Karissa Lagmay came up with the deciding kill, as she joined three other Broncos with double figures in that stat: Taylr Kreutziger (15), Kristin McNeese (11) and Courtney Alberi (10). Kreutziger and Alberi both hit .400 or better on the attack while earning season highs in kills.

Defensively, Kelly Bonja turned in an impressive performance with a team-high 21 digs. On the blocking end of things, Kreutziger collected six while Lauren Jones added five.

In the first game, after tying the score multiple times but then falling behind the Warriors once again, the Broncos finally broke through following a service ace from Jamie Kidd that evened the board at 13-13. Kreutziger came through with a kill in between the middle of the CSUS defense to put the host CPP squad ahead, 14-13.

From there, the Broncos continued to develop a larger advantage, using a 3-0 spurt to take the score from 19-18 to 22-19. That stretch featured stellar serving by Alberi and a kill from McNeese.

The Warriors escaped three game points late, trimming CPP's lead to 24-23. Kreutziger came through with the deciding kill – her fifth of the game – to give the Broncos the 25-23 result.

Although CPP took a small lead early in the second game, the visitors stormed back to retake the advantage behind strong attacking from Lianne Vicchio. The Broncos kept within striking distance but the visiting CSUS closed out the 25-19 decision going into intermission.

The troubles in the second game for CPP came as a result of a less effective attack, with the Broncos dropping from a .324 hitting percentage in the first game to a .095 mark in the second.

The tightly-contested nature of the match continued in the third game, with the score moving to 10-10 after a double block from Kreutziger and Kidd. The frame featured multiple lead changes and tie scores, as CSUS built up a 22-19 advantage heading into the final stretch before a CPP timeout.

After the Broncos were awarded a point on a rotational error from the Warriors, the next point featured an impressive dig by Bonja on the back row that preceded a Lagmay kill. Unfortunately for CPP, the visiting squad rallied for three-straight points to close out the 25-21 result.

The Broncos started the fourth game strong, with McNeese, Jones and Kreutziger showing their versatility with kills and blocks in a 6-3 stretch to open the frame and force the Warriors to call a timeout. Kirsten Rutledge provided the hosts with a service ace out of the break, pushing the lead to 7-3. CPP maintained that advantage for the remainder of the fourth, ultimately capturing a 25-17 result.

The fifth and final game proved to be intense, as CSUS crawled back to knot the score at 10-10. A service error on the Warriors turned it over to the Broncos, allowing Colin to toe the service line herself. On the next point, McNeese dove to her right to come up with a back-row dig and on the transition, Lagmay lined a kill just inside the right boundary to put CPP ahead 12-10.

The momentum continued in the Broncos' favor, as Jones and Kreutziger combined for a block on the next point. Colin followed that with an ace, leading CPP to a match point. There, McNeese provided another huge dig and Lagmay closed it out with a hard kill.

Up next, the Broncos will travel to Cal State Monterey Bay Friday for a 7 p.m. match.
