LOS ANGELES - A late goal from Sean Gurley trimmed the host's advantage to 2-1 but it proved to be too little and too late for the Broncos, as the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team suffered a road loss Sunday at Cal State L.A.

The Broncos drop to 9-5-2 overall and 8-4-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while the Golden Eagles improve to 10-1-5 overall and 8-1-5 through conference play.

CPP falls to third place in the South Division and Broncos are tied for fourth overall in the conference with Sonoma State. If CPP and SSU remain, the Broncos would win the tiebreaker with SSU based on head-to-head results in 2011. The Seawolves were dealt a 2-1 overtime defeat Sunday at the hands of UC San Diego.

Sunday's first half in Los Angeles featured just a few key chances for the two CCAA teams, with each squad notching four shots.

Some of the Broncos' best opportunities during the opening period came off of crosses into the box, with a pass from Juan Mejia sailing just out of reach of Luis Gonzalez and another attempt by Ricardo Reyes rolling just a bit too far in front of Jonathan Enns.

Gonzalez put a shot on frame in the 36th minute but CSULA goalkeeper Waleed Cassis stopped the 12-yard attempt.

The Golden Eagles came close to getting on the board early in the second half, when Antti Arvola lined a corner kick to the far post. Taylor Rivas was there unmarked but the ball caromed off his foot and out of bounds.

The CSULA attack found the go-ahead goal at the 62:23 mark when Nicolas Assad lined a long shot from about 22 yards out over the head of CPP netminder Andrew Todd.

Ten minutes later, the Golden Eagles struck for another score. Timo Schwar slipped a short pass into the 18 area for Rosario Bras, who dribbled right and then fired a low shot inside the far post.

Gurley made things interesting as he tallied his first career goal at the 88:22 mark. Receiving a pass from Boris Beta, Gurley stepped into the box and fired a close-range shot over Cassis. CPP failed to get another scoring opportunity though, with the Golden Eagles holding on for the 2-1 result.

Up next for the Broncos will be a 3 p.m. Friday matchup at Cal State San Bernardino.
